Description

I had a moment of free time, so in a moment of self-reflection, I decided to attempt this, and in the process discovered aspects of my hobby where I had gone astray.
At the same time, I was able to revisit and remember my original intentions and inspirations that brought me here in the first place, identifying many areas where I had failed, and the few areas where I had succeeded.
All in all, a fun experience, that reminded me of how far I have yet to go in this journey.

A brief explanation of each (in order of appearance):

1. Jim Lee: I love his strong, powerful depictions of superheroes.

2. Frank H. Netter, MD: Renowned for his detailed anatomical illustrations, whose anatomy atlases are pretty much a staple of any medical student's collection of textbooks. A personal inspiration when it comes to both being a doctor as well as being an artist.

3. Masamune Shirow: Author and artist of Ghost In The Shell, Appleseed, Tank Police Dominion, and other classic science-fiction manga. A large part of my style and creative process was greatly influenced by his works and style, as well as the way he is able to combine beautiful, sexy ladies with fantastic mechanical design and thought-provoking stories.

4. DC Comics: I've always been a fan of DC's superheroes, seeing them as personalities I could look up to. Design-wise, I've also taken character cues from a lot of my favourite heroes when it comes to my own works and concepts.

5. Supergirl: My personal favourite of all of DC's heroes and heroines. Michael Turner's Supergirl arc on the Superman/Batman comics was what got me back on board with regularly following the DC comics universe.

6. Final Fantasy: This video game series has always been about stellar storytelling and memorable characters, that have always captured my heart and soul. It's no surprise then that I've drawn quite a lot of inspiration from the scenarios, stories and character designs within.

7. Michael Turner: The other biggest influence on me other than Shirow. The way he did his art, was able to truly bring across strength, power and beauty, drawing some of the most attractive ladies in western comics.

8. Stanley 'Artgerm' Lau: One of the first artists I watched on dA, and one I am constantly awed and inspired by.

9. Ghost in The Shell: One of Masamune Shirow's works. I particularly liked GITS because of the strong overlying existentialist themes and Shirow's own attention to the detail in the manga.

10. Black Lagoon: One of my favourite anime to date. Extremely entertaining, and the 'girls with guns' theme it has going with it is one that I enjoy drawing inspiration and creating for.

11. Mobile Suit Gundam: I mostly enjoy the mechanical designs in the Gundam series.

12. Ken Akamatsu: The one who started it all. My first manga was Love Hina, and it was what drove me to want to learn how to draw to create my own characters and stories in the first place. I still go back to refer to his works for fun and for inspiration even though his last one (Magister Negi Magi) ended its run earlier this year.
